I am in my third year of studying Romanian. My level is intermediate, and I can follow conversations and read documents. That progress is useful every time I return to Moldova: I can understand more for myself and take a fuller part in discussions.
A more direct understanding
Working with local partners gives the language a practical purpose. Being able to follow a discussion or read a document helps me engage with the subject directly, rather than depend entirely on someone else’s explanation.
Outside business, understanding a conversation changes the experience of being here too. Everyday conversations are a way to get to know people and understand more of life in Moldova.
Keeping the study going
I continue lessons by video with my teacher from Anenii Noi. The format allows me to keep studying wherever I am, including between visits to Moldova.
After many extended stays and several entire summers, learning Romanian feels like a natural continuation of the connection I already have. I am pleased with what I can understand now, and motivated by what I still want to learn.
For interviews
I’m happy to give interviews in whichever language is most convenient for you. If I need help understanding any part of the conversation, I’ll arrange my own interpreter.
