I met Kapushon at his Las Vegas concert event when he came to the United States for a few shows. We shared an interest in music and a love for Moldova. That first meeting led to an ongoing collaboration on an album and music videos.
Moldova, by way of Las Vegas
Kapushon later returned to the United States with Gosh. We filmed “Când moldovenii au pornit prin lume” around Los Angeles and at my home in Las Vegas. I worked on production and co-wrote the script with Gosh and Kapushon.
I also appear behind the wheel of the Zhiguli, a classic Lada. I still can’t quite believe we found one in Las Vegas. The Lamborghini in the video, in the same color, was much easier to find. That is a comparison I would never have expected to make.
A whole group of Moldovans came to my home for the filming. They were warm, friendly people. I enjoyed having them there. A project about Moldovans abroad brought a little of Moldova to my home in Las Vegas.
Kapushon’s lyrical voice
I executive-produced the entire “Rapfonie de iarnă” album. For me, the album shows the depth of Kapushon’s talent as a lyricist. His writing is personal and reflective, with an emotional directness that gives the songs their character.
I think the album rewards listening from beginning to end. The songs reveal different sides of his writing, and I am proud to have helped bring the full project together.
Galbenă Moldovă
Our collaboration also includes “Galbenă Moldovă,” released for Moldova’s 35th anniversary of independence. I contributed the idea, initiative, and project production. Archival images supplied by Teleradio-Moldova give the music a historical dimension.
Working with Kapushon has become one of the most rewarding parts of my connection with Moldova. We began with shared interests and have had the chance to turn them into work we can share with others.
